1. August 20, 1981 – Los Angeles, California
The benefit concert for the Vietnam Veterans of America is well known as one of the most important and emotional perforamances in Springsteen’s entire career. It has been widely bootlegged, but none of the available recordings approach the high quality of other famous shows. An easy choice for #1.

2. November 16, 1990 – Los Angeles, California
The benefit for the Christic Institute featured Springsteen playing solo: not only on guitar, but – for the first time in many years – on piano as well. It was Bruce’s first public performance since dismissing the E Street Band and was the debut of four new songs, including “Real World.” This show, along with the following night’s performance, were reportedly considered as candidates for an official release in the 1990s.

3. September 24, 1999 – Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
For the fifth night of a six-show run during the Reunion tour, Bruce and the band moved across the street from the new arena to the old Spectrum, performing the night after Bruce’s fiftieth birthday. One of the best shows of that tour, but unfortunately no excellent recordings of the show have ever been available…yet.

4. August 23, 2008 – St. Louis, Missouri
Probably the best show by the E Street Band since they reunited in 1999. Memorable for the resurrection of numerous classic cover songs, including “Then She Kissed Me” and “Mountain of Love” as well as the band playing at peak power at the end of the Magic tour: the versions of “Gypsy Biker” and “Long Walk Home” from this show are definitive.

5. September 19, 1978 – Passaic, New Jersey
The “Piece de Resistance” show, and famously broadcast on WNEW-FM. It could be said that this show does not need an official release, given that it already exists in excellent quality in collectors’ circles. It remains one of the more significant shows in Bruce’s career, with the radio broadcast bringing many a fan’s first exposure to the E Street Band.  The LP, cassette and CD bootlegs of this show have been treasured by so many fans for so many years that it seems unfathomable that this show will not be included.

6. August 20, 1984 – East Rutherford, New Jersey
Well known under the bootleg title “The Last Great Show,” this was the final night of a ten-night homecoming stand at the Meadowlands Arena on the first leg of the Born in the U.S.A. tour. The Miami Horns and Little Steven were special guests, including on a memorable version of “Drift Away.” This show was one of the sources of the Live 1975-1985 box set and should be easily available for release.

7. March 25, 1977 – Boston, Massachusetts
The final night of a legendary four-show run to end a series of shows in which Springsteen was playing live because he could not record in the studio due to his legal battles with Mike Appel. Featuring a powerful “Backstreets” and “Higher and Higher” to end the show.

8. October 18, 1975 – Los Angeles, California
The fourth of a six-night residency at the Roxy Theater in West Hollywood. This show is the source of the now-famous version of “Thunder Road” that starts the Live 1975-1985 box set. Given the likelihood that the entire show exists in Bruce’s archives, this is a probable (and worthy) choice for inclusion in the series.

9. May 3, 1988 – Mountain View, California
Available for years under the famous bootleg title “Roses and Broken Hearts,” and widely considered the best show of the Tunnel of Love tour. A wild encore includes “Sweet Soul Music,” “Have Love Will Travel,” and for the first time in ten years, “Little Latin Lupe Lu.”

10. January 31, 1973 – New York, New York
Shortly after the release of Greetings from Asbury Park, NJ, Mike Appel made arrangements for this show to be recorded for King Biscuit Flower Hour radio program. Given the uncertainty of availability of early recordings of the band, this seems a likely choice as the earliest recording in the archive series.

May 9, 1974, Cambridge, Massachussets
The show at the Harvard Square Theater reviewed by Jon Landau, resulting in a now legendary quote. The band was touring behind The Wild, The Innocent… and included David Sancious and Boom Carter in their lineup.

August 9, 1978 – Cleveland, Ohio
The famous “Agora” show, broadcast on Cleveland’s WMMS, with the band introduced by Kid Leo.

December 31, 1980 – Uniondale, New York
Still one of Springsteen’s longest-ever shows (even if since surpassed several times in 2012). This show was a source for Live 1975-85, Tracks and The Essential Bruce Springsteen and is certainly sitting in Bruce’s archives in its entirety.

May 8, 1981 – Stockholm, Sweden
Arguably the best show of the 1981 European tour, Bruce’s first extended visit overseas.

October 31, 1984 – Los Angeles, California
Halloween night includes a special “High School Confidential” opening skit and a rare performance of “My Father’s House.”

June 24, 1993 – East Rutherford, New Jersey
The “Concert to Fight Hunger,” at the end of the 1992-1993 World Tour; with guest appearances from Little Steven, Max Weinberg, Southside Johnny, and a roof-raising moment when Clarence Clemons comes out during “Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out.”

May 8, 2000 – Hartford, Connecticut
One of the consensus best shows of the Reunion tour, including Bruce dropping a part of “Honky Tonk Women” into the start of “Darlington County.”

June 28, 2003 – Milan, Italy
The final night of the European leg of the Rising tour, including a wild crowd, a thunderstorm and a rare performance of “Follow that Dream.” Specifically cited by Jon Landau at the time as one of Bruce’s best-ever shows.

October 4, 2003 – New York, NY
The final night of the Rising tour includes a rarity-filled setlist and a guest appearance from Bob Dylan.

November 19, 2007 – Boston, Massachusetts
Danny Federici’s last complete show with the E Street Band. (Alternate choice: April 22, 2008 in Tampa, Florida, the first show after his death).

November 8, 2009 – New York, New York
A complete performance of The River album, for the first and quite possibly only time. A stunning show, even beyond the album portion of the proceedings.

November 22, 2009 – Buffalo, New York
The final night of the Working on a Dream tour; a complete performance of Greetings from Asbury Park, NJ and Clarence Clemons’ final tour show with the band.

July 31, 2012 – Helsinki, Finland
At four hours, four minutes and forty-seven seconds, the longest Springsteen show ever performed.

J'ai la "première" version -celle diffusé en direct- et je ne pense pas acheter la "nouvelle" version pour vérifier la diférence donc ma réponse a des limites.

Si j'ai bien compris, la version sortie hier est celle qui a été diffusée en différé sur E St Radio (quelques semaines après le concert) après mixage par Clearmountain. Le problème de E St Radio, c'est que le signal est vraiment très comprimé et le son pas terrible. Cette version là a aussi circulé en téléchargement -avec E St Radio comme source. On peut supposer que la version en téléchargement sur le site of' est donc de meilleure qualité.
Ceci dit, si on a déjà le concert sur son ordi (première prise radio en direct ou rediffusion)... je ne suis pas certain que ça vaille le coup (sauf bien sûr, si on veut vraiment ce concert en qualité super nickel ou un "live" officiel de la tournée).

Ayant les 1eres versions oui à l'écoute des extraits HD et autres présents sur le site. On entend une nette différence. Son clair, voix qui était lointaine sur le boots radio, parfait sur le live officiel. Ah j'hésite... surtout la version 24/96

Il y pas mal de bons concerts dans cette liste..

Il y en a même peut-être trop pour ma bourse ces jours-ci.

Je sens que l'option 78 va être bien couverte (vu le nombre de shows radio à disposition).
Si j'avais à faire une petite liste, je crois que mes "priorités" seraient les suivantes : un show US de 88 (les derniers au MSG sont sans doute la quintessence de cette tournée), un show US de 84 (collection automne/hiver), le concert de LA VET 81 et pour ce qui est de la période récente un de la tournée DD. Voilà. Boston 77 aussi.
Donc plutôt des périodes pas vraiment bien représentées en live officiel (et pas les meilleurs sons de bootlegs non plus).

On verra bien.

Si Bercy Night 2 pouvait sortir des cartons cela pourrait faire un bluray de dingue !

Ben moi, j'aimerais bien CARHAIX, c' est le seul concert français à ne jamais avoir circulé .... en entier. Et comme le début du concert avait été diffusé sur France Inter, on peut supposer qu 'il ai été enregistré en entier et en excellente qualité.

Pas de vidéo annoncée en effet et j'ai l'impression que nugs.net (qui assure l'interface) ne vend pas de dvd ni de téléchargements de vidéo.

Une chose après l'autre : peut-être que cela amènera JLM à considérer des sorties plus larges (un peu comme les Stones) pour quelques concerts majeurs?

Ce sont peut-être les éditions dont parle Mathis (dans un autre topic) -même si je crois que ce sont des concerts de 78 (Passaic, Winterland..) dans ceux qu'il évoque.
En même temps entre les éditions officiels (avec 5 formats différents) et les pirates, c'est à y perdre son latin.

Tiens, en fouinant je suis tombé sur ça.
Qu'est-ce que ça vaut, je ne sais pas (enfin si autour de 12,50€)

J'ai un copain qui a viré absolument tous ces boitiers cristal et a glissé cd plus livret dans des étuis translucides slim, du coup sa femme a de nouveau PLEIN de place sur les étagères pour ranger ses bouquins de cuisine... Just sayin'

Et il se passera longtemps avant que l'on découvre quoi que ce soit dans une qualité décente.

C'est dommage qu'ils nous aient déjà sortis le Barcelone 02 que l'on avait déjà également (partiellement avant sa sortie) & le Hyde park 09 (idem). ça aurait pu compléter la collection.

ah priori Bruce n'a pas fait d'autres concerts que ceux que nous connaissons.
A moins qu'une tournée sur la lune ou mars nous ai échappé...
Ce serait donc relativement logique qu'on retrouve les mêmes shows "historiques" de la grande époque (76/78/80/84).
Pour constituer le coffret 5 disques, à l'époque le boss avait aussi fait appel, il me semble, aux bootleggers.
C'est donc bien les archives qui manquent, plus que le manque d'idées ou d'opportunités à proposer autre chose.
Pour le coffret darkness aussi il semble y avoir eu des soucis d'archives.

Mais bon...tu as l'air si sur de ton fait.

Par exemple "Brussel affair" est le meilleur boot des Stones de la période 73. Je le connaissais par coeur dans au moins 3 versions, entre vinyl et éditions cd's.
La version des archives officielles lorsque ce concert a été rendu disponible, a explosé ce qui existait déjà, ne serait que grâce à un mastering propre.
Mais j'ai aussi lu des avis d'irréductibles qui trouvait la version boot meilleure.

I found the seven Agora tape reels in a box that had been returned from the Rock'n Roll Hall Of Fame.  The tapes were part of an exclusive Springsteen exhibit “Asbury Park to the Promised Land”.  It wasn’t until the request to release this show came up that the tapes needed to be found.  Not at Sony, not at Thrill Hill Archives, not at the archiving company.  Last known location was the Rock'n Roll Hall of Fame.  They informed me what box to look in and there they were, marked with the original indication of speed, tracks and show date.

I had the tapes delivered to Plangent Processes for evaluation and transfer, if they seemed to be of adequate quality.  After comparison to other copies of this show, this was the best version and potentially the original master tapes. Plangent transferred all seven reels using their unique process, which corrects any speed variations for accurate playback.  This eliminates the wow and flutter usually found in the playback of any analog tape.  This new transfer to the digital domain was done at 192 (samples per second) with 24 bit resolution.  The resulting digital files were sent to Gateway Mastering for evaluation and mastering, as was done to the Box Set Volume 1, recently released to critical acclaim.  The resulting new master will give a renewed vigor to the already exciting show.

After kicking off in the not-so-recent-past with the 2012 Apollo show, one month later the archival side of Springsteen's live downloads series jumps right into the sweet spot of the vault with its second release: The Agora, Cleveland, Ohio, August 9, 1978.

One of five radio broadcasts on the Darkness tour, the Agora, as it has come to be known, is a performance held in extraordinarily high esteem by fans who have relived it for decades through the magic of bootlegging on titles like Summertime Bruce, Agora Night and Just in Time for Summer.

But none of those titles had the benefit of being sourced from seven 15-IPS (inches per second), half-track, mixdown reel to reels, newly transferred using the same Plangent process used for the recently released Album Collection box set. The new release promises unprecedented quality from an old familiar friend.

Brad Serling, founder and CEO of Nugs.net, which handles the live series, tells Backstreets, "It's so exciting to be a part of this — I feel like we're unearthing a piece of rock 'n' roll history, to do this and not put out just another copy of something that people have had on bootleg for years."

The show itself was a special stop on the Darkness tour to celebrate the 10th anniversary of WMMS, home to one of Springsteen's biggest and most influential radio supporters, Kid Leo. As Brucebase notes, Kid Leo memorably introduced the band to the stage to kick off the broadcast that also reached listeners via FM stations in other Midwest cities: "Good evening and welcome to the WMMS 10th anniversary concert. I'm Kid Leo, and I have the duty and the pleasure of welcoming, ladies and gentlemen, the main event. Round for round, pound for pound, there ain't no finer band around: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band!"

The set is a stone-cold Darkness tour classic, kicking off appropriately with a cover of Eddie Cochran's "Summertime Blues" and moving through what might best be described as a core setlist for this portion of the tour (including the soon-to-be-dropped "Paradise By The C" to start the second set), augmented by the then-unreleased "Sherry Darling" (another nod to summer) and the set-closing "Twist and Shout."

As for the tapes themselves, it took a bit of digging to find the best source. "Initially, what Toby found in the Thrill Hill archives was not a great-sounding transfer of the reels that they'd had," Serling explains. "So they asked Sirius, and Sirius pulled out their copy — which apparently sounded better than what Toby had from the initial transfer. That's what was originally slated for release, and even sent off to Gateway to be mastered. Meanwhile, Toby still wanted to find the original reels and see if he could make a better transfer. I happened to call him while he was working on this — I voiced concern about putting out a bootleg that people had already heard if it wasn't the best existing sound. He said, 'Well, it does sound better than the last transfer, but I think we can do better.'

"Serendipitously, Toby found a box of seven reels that been on display at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame," continues Serling, "and that was it. The reels — the pre-FM, stereo mix of this show — had gone missing, and it turns out they were in this box that was on loan to the Rock Hall. And Toby had managed to find it just in time."

Sent over to Plangent for a fresh transfer, the Agora audio was pitch-corrected and adjusted for wow-and-flutter as it was extracted from the master reels, "brought back to as sonically perfect as the tapes could be," Serling says. "It sounded way better than Toby's original transfer, and better than the Sirius bootleg. So we managed to push it through."

The provenance of the reels is still not entirely clear to Scott or to Serling. They are unlikely to be the "John LoConti tapes," named for the Agora's founder who died earlier this year; a few years back, Cleveland press reported he had hoped to take the 24-track recording he made of the show and get permission to release it to benefit the Western Reserve Historical Society. "What we do know," Serling says, "is that there is no other stereo mix of this tape in the Thrill Hill archives."

We would suspect these seven tapes are the mixed-down and mastered reels from which copies of the show were made by Columbia to service other select radio stations when demand for live Springsteen was raging in the late ’78 and early ’79. Some have speculated the Agora was considered for a possible 1979 official live album, and though there isn't enough evidence to conclusively state that, Serling does note, "That's what's interesting — that could be what this stereo mix is! The boxes say 'Springsteen Live,' as if it were a live album. The sleuth work involved here has been really exciting, trying to look under every rock and see what's there. And this is the best possible version of the show we could have in our hands right now."

In addition to CD and standard digital files, the Agora will also be available in the highest-existing High Definition: "We're really psyched to come out of the gate with our first deep archive release and put it out at 24-bit/192KHz," says Sterling.

The same Plain-Dealer story about LoConti's tapes offers some heady endorsements of the show: "Former WMMS programmer John Gorman recalls in his book The Buzzard that Bob Seger told him he recorded it off the radio in Detroit, calling it 'the greatest rock 'n' roll show I ever heard,' and drummer Max Weinberg called it the best show the E Street Band ever did."
