The Allman Brothers Band / Gregg Allman

Alors tout d'abord un grand MERCI à Michel pour m'avoir fait découvrir en 2009 ce fabuleux groupe américain qu'est l'Allman Brothers Band !! J'avais plongé à l'époque dans le coffret Beacon Run que tu nous avais fait découvrir sur l'ancien Forum, quelle caverne d'Ali Baba, quelle musique !!! Et là cette année, l'annonce de l'arrivée de la légende himself Gregg Allman avec un magnifique album. Pas d'hésitation lorsque j'ai pris le billet et bien m'en a pris, quel concert !!! Un autre monde !!! à des années lumières de ce marasme musical français qui nous entoure...et que seuls des grands comme Gregg Allman ou un Mellencamp tels des étoiles filantes dans le ciel parisien nous font percevoir ce qu'est la Musique américaine, celle du Deep South, blues et rurale.
Quel crève coeur de voir que ces concerts ne sont pas complets alors qu'on se bouscule pour des pseudos comédies musicales et des artistes qui reproduisent le même son, les mêmes textes et les mêmes voix !!! On se demande si ce n'est pas nous finalement qui appartenons à une secte étrange !!
Le plaisir est d'autant accentué d'avoir partagé ce grand moment musical avec toi Michel ( la setliste trophée ne pouvait que te revenir ) et Catherine ainsi qu'avec JC et les sympathiques dreamers kidboss, Nanou, Rockerm@an et Manu.
Belle claque musical que ce concert !! D'entrée la voix de Gregg Allman sur Don't keep wondering m'a cueilli et le train était parti !!Quelle voix, quels musiciens incroyables !!! Chacun élevant d'un cran le show par la qualité de ces solos, que ce soit le pianiste "fou", le saxophoniste/flûtiste (au passage quelle drôle d'impression et quel pincement au coeur pour qui vous savez...), le guitariste virtuose. Sans oublier le remarquable travail rythmique du bassiste en arrière scène. Y a pas à dire Monsieur Gregg Allman sait s'entourer des meilleurs !! N'hésitant pas à s'effacer sur deux chansons magnifiquement interprétées par le percussionniste Floyd Miles, pour un peu on se serait cru dans l'ambiance intime du Sud Profond.
Un Just like a woman revisité et qui nous fait tous sourire à la mine de JC ! 4 morceaux du dernier album dont le splendide Just another rider...Et ces morceaux de légende que je n'espérais même pas entendre pensant que le dernier album occuperait la grande majorité du set: l'impression d'être vraiment dans un autre univers avec le planant Dreams qui m'a littéralement ébloui avec Whipping Post !!! Comme si la machine à remonter le temps nous permettait de vivre l'espace d'un instant ces fameuses années 70, cette période faste musicalement hélas trop jeune pour l'avoir vécu avec ces morceaux datant du début des années 70: One way out, Melissa, Midnight rider...Et quel beau final avec Floating Bridge à la guitare acoustique suivi de Statesboro Blues !!
Le rêve maintenant c'est de pouvoir assister un jour aux concerts du Beacon Theater de l'Allman Brothers Band...

En attentant, souvenir souvenir ..

Le problème c'est que Gregg Allman en solo ou avec l'ABB sont interdits sur les sites Dimeadozen, Trader's den, Hungercity ou encore Zombtracker. Après il en existe d'autres mais pour la plupart c'est en MP3.

C'est le deal passé entre l'ABB et les sites de téléchargement, comme tous les concerts sont vendus à des prix corrects et disponibles rapidement, les sites se sont engagés à ne pas diffuser d'enregistrement des shows.

Par contre cette règle ne s'applique pas aux shows de Derek trucks et de Warren Haynes (alors que Gov't Mule diffuse aussi des Mules Tracks)

Greg Allmann annule la fin de sa tournée d'été pour cause de pépins respiratoires...

A noter la présence surprise de Nels Cline, de Wilco, sur 3 titres, Dreams, Spanish Keys et Mountain Jam (ainsi que celle de Bill Evans au saxo).

Appearing on the “Mushroom Stage” at Sno Mountain Aug. 11 will be Jaimoe’s Jasssz Band, Railroad Earth, Toubab Krewe and more leading up to a headlining Wailers performance.
Organizers said the last day of the festival will feature a “stripped-down side of the Peach” taking place on the Mushroom Stage, including a “gospel brunch music celebration” with Robert Randolph & the Family Band and the Blind Boys Of Alabama.
A statement released by The Allman Brothers Band pretty much summed up the vibe the band has planned for you.
“Nothing quite like spending the weekend with our family and friends in the mountains. We’ve put together a line-up of our favorite bands, to make the first annual Peach Music Festival something our fans will really enjoy.”

Gregg ALLMAN - on TV and in PRINT..
At the dawn of the 1970’s, a dynamic new sound roared out of the American Deep South. It was forged by rock bands hell bent on success – in particular the Allman Brothers and Lynyrd Skynyrd. They achieved this completely on their own terms, digging deep into their rich musical heritage. Their lyrics praised the landscape, championed blue-collar life & regional pride – promoting a new, post-civil rights vision of the South.



But they were up against unbelievable odds. The film starts in the 1960’s, showing how so much of that turbulent decade’s hate & anger emanated from the South. By the end of that decade, the region was viewed as racist, backwards & insular, with an innate hatred of blacks, liberals & the counter-culture – as scenes from 1969’s Easy Rider illustrated. The South was also completely off the rock music map. It was all happening thousands of miles away in California & New York.

But as the film reveals, a determined group of rebellious, long-haired Southern musicians decided to stick it out in the South, reject their redneck inheritance and kick-start a dynamic movement. The film charts the struggles to have their music accepted and the crucial role that Georgia’s Capricorn Records played in taking Southern Rock deep into the mainstream. The Allman Brothers Band offered up redemptive messages in their rhapsodic blues-rock blasts, while Skynyrd’s bourbon-fuelled boogie riffs attacked counter-culture musicians like Neil Young who dared to stereotype the South.

These 2 groups along with the Marshall Tucker Band, Charlie Daniels, ZZ Top & others, transformed the region before conquering the rest of the USA – then the world. By the mid-1970’s, their music was having a massive cultural and political impact. It was now a good thing to come from the South. Even Hollywood was making movies set in the South, like Smokey & The Bandit. The negative depictions in Easy Rider were passé. The South was no longer the bete noire of the USA. Then in 1976 Georgia’s Jimmy Carter – supported by Southern rock bands – won the presidential election. It was a defining moment.

This is an extraordinary saga full of grit, triumph & redemption, as long-haired, Harley-driving Southerners came together for a magical moment – rejecting their past & tuning into their poetic soul.

Contributors include: Gregg Allman, Jaimoe Johanson (Allman Brothers Band), REM’s Mike Mills, Doug Gray (The Marshall Tucker Band), Al Kooper, Bonnie Bramlett (Delaney & Bonnie), Charlie Daniels, Patterson Hood (The Drive-By Truckers), Donnie Van Zant, Larry Junstrom (Lynyrd Skynryd / 38 Special) and other key managers, producers and musicians.

Merci Michel pour l'info, je crois bien que je vais me laisser tenter Dans Pile poil ce matin j'évoquais un documentaire sur Muscle Schoals et je crois bien que dans la liste ci-dessus, il doit y avoir pas mal de morceaux enregistrés là-bas à l'époque. Dis donc bien beau 31/12/12 à New York Michel !!!

Absolument, à défaut du Beacon Run de l'ABB en mars (mais ce n'est que partie remise) finir l'année 2012 avec Gov't Mule restera un de mes meilleurs souvenirs de concerts c'est sur !
