"Star Tonight," "Gets Ya Pumpin'" and "Wildfire" are previously unreleased songs.

Seger enhanced some of the recordings with new sessions at Kid Rock's studio in Clarkston in September and October, bringing in Jimmy McCarty of Mitch Ryder's Detroit Wheels, the Rockets, Mystery Train and Helldriver to re-record his "Get Out of Denver" solo and the Motor City Horns to add brass to some tracks.

Hormis la performance commune de Thunder Road dont parle JC plus haut, il y a aussi leur première rencontre lors d'une pause durant le Darkness Tour: Springsteen avait insisté pour voir Bob Seger durant sa soirée de libre dans le Michigan dont Seger est originaire.
Selon Ken Calvert, le journaliste qui les avait présenté backstage, le courant était immédiatement passé entre les deux artistes et ils avaient longuement jammé ce soir là.

02/09/78 – PINE KNOB MUSIC THEATRE, CLARKSTON, MI

Springsteen, Ken Calvert (area Promotions Manager for Columbia), as well several others in the Springsteen entourage take the Darkness Tour bus to Pine Knob to catch a Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band concert. Bruce had mentioned to Calvert (who knew Seger) that he wanted to see Michigan’s favorite son in action. This was the first time Seger and Springsteen (mutual admirers of each others work) had ever met. Seger was aware Springsteen was coming and delivered an extraordinary performance. Following the show Springsteen and Seger spent a considerable amount of time backstage chatting, talking shop and singing some impromptu oldies. It has been speculated that Springsteen’s exceptional show and one-off performance of “I Don’t Want To Hang Up My Rock ‘n Roll Shoes” the following night in Saginaw was inspired by this night’s events. Note: Bob Seger joined Springsteen onstage for a memorable guest appearance on Oct 3, 1980 at the University Of Michigan.

Downtown Train. Seger recorded Tom Wait's "Downtown Train" in early 1989. He traveled to England that summer, where he happened to tell Rod Stewart about recording the song. "The next thing I knew, a month later he recorded "Downtown Train" in London and two months later he recorded it in the same studio I recorded it in Los Angeles." The song became a #3 hit for Stewart. Gary Graff, August 4, 1991, Detroit Free Press. "Lost chances? Seger says he has no regrets."

Seger later called Stewart a "nonperson" for stealing his idea to record the song. Stewart's manager claimed that Rod recorded the song before his get-together with Seger. Stewart himself replied: "It's most disappointing to hear something like this, since the geezer knows very well the full truth. It sounds like sour grapes to me. Go ahead, Bob -- feel free to record something of mine, like 'Maggie May.'" John Smyntek, July 30, 1995, Detroit Free Press. "New Seger album due out this fall."

As for the tour, which currently has 24 announced shows, Seger promises that it won't be a mere redux of his 2006-07 jaunt to support "Face the Promise."

"There will be a lot of changes to the show. A lot," says Seger, who rehearsed his Silver Bullet Band at good pal Kid Rock's warehouse facility in the Detroit suburbs. "But we've worked on a lot of stuff, and there will be some changes in the show -- just doing some different songs than we did last time, Some different old songs that we... haven't done for years, as a matter of fact. We've got 34 songs so far, and I think at a max we can do 25 in a show, and I keep working them up. That's the fun for me is changing the show a little bit. We're just trying to surprise some people who will say, 'Oh, wow, I forgot he did that.'"

Seger Readies North American Tour, Talks Album

With a two-month tour set to launch Mar. 26 in Toledo, Bob Seger has "stopped dead" on recording his first all-new album since 2006's "Face the Promise." But he's excited with what he has so far.

"There isn't a song on it quite like anything I've done before," Seger tells Billboard.com. "I'm really making an effort to break new ground on it, that's the best I can say -- different feels, different speeds, different approaches to the stuff I do. It's just...different, you know? I don't know how else to explain it."

Seger has previewed the as-yet-untitled set with a rendition of Tom Waits' "Downtown Train," which he first recorded in 1989 and revived last fall and is now being streamed online, though is not for sale. "It was the one that sounded most radio-ready," Seger notes. Other tracks include: a "father-daughter" song called "Hannah" that features guest appearances by Kid Rock and Sheryl Crow -- the same trio that recorded "Collide," the new single from Rock's "Born Free" album; a track called "The Sea Inside" that Seger describes as "very Led Zeppelin;" and "Hey Gypsy," a Texas swing-styled "homage to Stevie Ray Vaughan" that he says has a shot at being included in this spring's concerts.

Seger, who put four unreleased songs on 2009's "Early Seger Volume One" collection, says he initially approached the new album as kind of a sequel, working on "about 47 old, unreleased songs...for about nine months." After going back to "Downtown Train," however, "it kind of spiked me to start writing again." After the tour wraps in the Detroit area during may, Seger predicts he'll "take a little while off, maybe like a month off -- and when I say 'off,' I'll be writing some more."

Il a précisé au magazine américain Billboard qu’à l’âge de 66 ans, il était en pleine réflexion : « Cela fait longtemps que je suis là. Vous savez, je me demande si je vais continuer l’année prochaine."
